“The Road of Our Senses: Search for Personal Meaning and the Limitations of Myth in Neil Gaiman’s American Gods” is an article by Rut Blomqvist and published by Mythlore. This work is focused on the protagonist, Shadow, and his quest to “look for himself”. Shadow lives in an America where he needs to belong, but cannot. In his quest, he finds clarity when dealing with the dead, particularly Laura, because the dead are unbiased and focus more on morals and ethics than anything else. I originally found this journal through Google Scholar, but it only contained a paragraph, so I started searching throughout the internet and found a longer version of it.
I agree with the author’s point on Shadow trying to find himself. Just a few days after Shadow left prison, he met with a con artist who went by the name “Wednesday”, a person who can grab coins from nowhere and promised a brute that said brute can bash Shadow’s head in. Anyone would like to know more about themselves under similar circumstances. The source offers a speedy, valid summary while also being able to introduce Shadow’s personality and way of thinking as the main point.

The Book of Kali by Seema Mohanty is an interesting book about a Hindu Goddess named Kali. The section I read described why Kali looks the way she does, from the color of her skin to why her hair was not tied up. I also found this book on Google Scholar. When I attempted to find it in different databases, the book could not be found. I chose this book because of one particular scene in American Gods. Odin had called up everyone to have a meeting for what these Gods were going to do next. Before it starts though, Shadow sees this old woman. However, this old lady appeared to him at times as a four-armed, woman with blades in each hand as well as skulls around her neck. This immediately reminded me of Kali, and my thinking was reassured when the lady states that her counterpart in India is doing really well.
